Sky news interview on 16 August 2021 with Heston discussing his reaction to the final phase failure – and the withdrawal from Afghanistan and the capitulation that has unfolded.
Heston says: It’s very easy for many to say that we may not have seen this coming – but we did and this is exactly what we were trained to prepare for.
We have lost our way with actually planning, implementing and reevaluating strategy – all for the sake of contemporary politics and short-term policies for public opinion.
Not only do we deserve better than this – we are better than this. That’s the biggest frustration, we’ve literally done this before and will be called upon to do it again.
